International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA) organised its 45th Annual International Drug Conference between 17 - 22 October 2004 in Ft. Lauderdale / Florida at the Marina Marriott Hotel.The Conference was organised on a very high level of professionalism and it was again a very successful event. As usual, there was a special awards ceremony to honour those drug enforcement officers having performed outstanding service during drug investigations. More than 700 awards were presented to drug enforcement officers - policemen, FBI, DEA agents, etc. during this conference. Last year awards were presented to 624 Drug Enforcement Officers from throughout the United States and countries from around the world. In addition, $1,000 scholarship grants and posthumous award was presented to the family and 2 children of the Mexican Officer at Airports Security Force, who was killed by the Drug Mafia in the line of duty involving drug investigations. Conference Keynote Speaker, Mrs. Michele LEONHART - Deputy Administrator of DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) gave detailed and exciting report on the nature of narco-terrorism and on the results of the fight against this type of crime. The following special training programs were presented during the conference - DEA presented a program covering drug pharmacology, addiction and tactical narcotic operations
- National Drug Intelligence Centre presented a program on critical Listening and reading, Money Laundering, and Realtime Analytical Intelligence Database (RAID)
- Pharmaceutical Industry Seminar presented a special conference on State Regulatory and Licensing issues, Regulations and Requirements for handling controlled substances, Diversion Trends, Compliance and much more
As a result of the fruitful cooperation between the International Bodyguard and Security Services Association (IBSSA) and the International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association (INEOA) more and more active IBSSA leaders become members of INEOA and attend the yearly conference. Prof. George POPPER - President of IBSSA and Head of the Hungarian Delegation had successful meetings and discussions with Mrs. Michele LEONHART - Deputy Administrator of DEA, Mr. John J. BELLIZZI - Executive Director of INEOA and Dr. Marko NICOVIC - President of INEOA for the year 2004. During the discussions it turned out, that INEOA leaders welcomed the proposal of the IBSSA Hungarian Section and the Hungarian members of INEOA regarding the establishment of the Hungarian Section of INEOA. 2nd November 2004, Budapest IBSSA HQ
